Marcus Smart on Why Guarding Westbrook Is So Difficult
http://www.sneakerwatch.com/ – Rookie Marcus Smart coming out of Oklahoma State University had the high hopes of many NBA fans and Boston Celtics diehards to be a franchise changer, which led them to the move of trading Rajon Rondo to the Mavericks. In this footage, Smart speaks on many things, including guarding a guy like Russell Westbrook, whom Smart believes is arguably one of the tougher matchups he has had to face this season. He says it’s hard to keep a guy like Westbrook in front of you and with his aggressive style of play, as it causes a lot of fouls and eventually the great playmaking skills of Russell seem to take over.
Marcus also talks about the team’s performance in that night’s game, and although they came up short 118-122 vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder, there were many positives to feed on. The team had a lot of turnovers in this performance and Smart thinks it wasn’t just the Thunder’s defensive intensity on the ball, but also his team’s inability to control the tempo and play sound, fundamental basketball. He was also asked about the team’s high volume three point shooting, especially in the third quarter of the matchup, and Smart believes that that quarter was one of the many reasons his team suffered the defeat.
Smart in that night’s matchup vs. the Thunder contributed 25 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Big props to Sneakerreporter for the footage.
